Bullying in Schools Can Help Me Stand Up to Bullies!
My students need seven copies of "Bullying in Schools," and an iPod with case to read about bullying and record skits to learn how to stand up to bullies.

My Students
Think back to when you were in school. Were you ever bullied? Did anyone ever say things that were hurtful to you? Bullying is a huge epidemic that needs to be dealt with proactively.
I teach a vibrant group of 4th grade students.
We live in an area which relies heavily on the success of the American auto industry. Many of my students' parents have lost their jobs and have been forced to reevaluate the direction of their careers. This all equates to a lot of sacrifice on the part of my students. Still, they have a zest for life that is indescribable. They are some of the most caring and compassionate people I have ever met.
My Project
Bullying is a problem in every school. The book I am requesting about bullying will help my students become more confident in the way they respond to bullies. It includes many stories about students who were bullied from the perspective of a witness. Hopefully my students will not be involved in bullying in the future. However, it is very possible that they will bear witness to it. This book will help prepare them for what feelings they might have when they see somebody else being bullied. Should they stand up for a stranger? Should they stand up for a friend? Will they become a target of bullies as well? Is it worth it? Additionally, the iPod and case will allow them to read electronic books about bullying, such as "ALOHA POTTER! Bullying and Teasing Children's Book," "The Bully Book," and, "Coping with Cliques: A Workbook to Help Girls Deal with Gossip, Put-Downs, Bullying, and Other Mean Behavior". Additionally, the students will be recording skits about bullying with the iPod.
Fortunately, I have been blessed with some amazing students who are typically careful to consider what they say before they say it.
However, they are inevitably going to have to deal with bullying as they age. If they are not part of it, they will witness it. I want to equip them with the tools they need to be part of the solution, instead of part of the problem.
