This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Children in America today are dealing with many struggles that they are not ready to deal with and bullying has become one of their biggest battles.
Most of my students are Title I and English Language Learners.
They all receive free lunch. A few of our students live in foster homes and many of them are from single family households. All of my students are excited about learning and going to school. Most of my students come from Hispanic backgrounds and approximately 3/4 of my students are English Language Learners (ELL.) Their unique experiences and backgrounds make them more susceptible to bullies and bullying.
My Project
My students need Bully-Proof Your Classroom Teaching Kit, Character Education Curriculum: Bullying, Pop for Sight Words Games, Dry Erase Set, Organization Station, and Bear Mini Mouse activities to help them deal with the struggles of everyday life and bullying in school. These anti-bullying resources will allow students to listen and learn about different ways they can defend themselves from bullies by providing posters and ideas for projects that can be done throughout the year. Using posters and writing boards, students will be able to evaluate events, write down their thoughts, and keep their work private in personal storage areas. It will empower them with the vital skills needed to become productive members of society. It will inspire them to write and build self-esteem as students find ways to express their thoughts through writing instead of violence.
It is very important to raise awareness about bullying.
Children deserve the right to feel safe in school and it is my job as a first grade teacher to teach them right from wrong and how deeply bullying affects everyone. I believe Jim Rohn's words can be applied to teachers when he said, The challenge of teacher is to teach children "to be strong, but not rude; be kind, but not weak; be bold, but not bully." Your donation can help me achieve this.
