Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Have you ever read with a partner? Reading in school is much more fun if you read with a partner and you take turns. Reading partners in a class promotes friendship, kindness, affection, tolerance, and respect for one another. I want my students to opt for kindness in lieu of discrimination and hate.

I have a class of 100% Latino English Language Learners.

My students are smart, driven, and very verbal. Most of them do not have a computer or other technology at home. Our school provides a safe environment away from gangs and other socioeconomic limitations. They are exposed to violence and socioeconomic limitations like lack of food that others take for granted. In my classroom, students get to dream. The sky is not the limit. They can soar out of this world. The classroom is a safe haven where dreaming high is encouraged. Nothing is impossible when they dream, write, and share their future plans. They will explore and experience activities in a whole new way, with the requested supplies because it puts them one step ahead of success.

My Project

Bullying in my class is unacceptable! Instead, my students learn anger management skills. They learn to be compassionate, kind, and loving towards each other. One of the ways I foster a sense of community and friendship is by launching a school wide anti-bullying campaign. They will be presenting mini lessons of compassion, caring, and kindness as the main focus. They will be role models for the lower grades, and for those students who look up to them. Thus, the reason I have requested a camera, is so that after my students have researched material and promoted our anti-bullying campaign school wide, they will have memories from beginning to end of how they made posters and presented to their peers their research and solutions to eradicate bullying. I have also requested a set of Bullying in Schools, to promote friendship and avoid bullying all together. The samples given in the book are explicit and have shaken my students' core to reason and reflect on how bullying affect victims.

Please help me foster a sense of community in my classroom by funding this project.

I can sure you that these books will not only help us read, comprehend, and spell better but also will help us maintain compassion, friendship, and kindness. Bullying others should not be tolerated in our society. It is not tolerated in my classroom! So help me promote the love of reading through partner reading. This will help eradicate bullying.
