Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Students in my Crafts and Ceramics I and II classes come from a low socioeconomic and underprivileged environment. The majority of my classes are made up of tenth to twelfth grade, male and female students of African American and Hispanic descent. Living in the city environment that surrounds them, students channel all of their demographics into the art they create in my classes.

My students come to school each day knowing they get a chance to relieve the stresses and triumphs they are faced within their home lives.

Even before entering my classroom, students are eager, excited, and ready to get creative! Many come during their lunch to continue working on projects and some even stay after school!

My Project

The high school my students currently attend was newly built only a few years ago! The walls in the hallways and classrooms are still mostly white painted bricks with no color at all. There are no bulletin boards to display student art and tape only holds for about a day or so.

Having enclosed bulletin boards in the hallway outside my Art Room will allow for student work to be displayed professionally and for a longer period of time.

Students enjoy seeing their art on display and it will bring a feeling of achievement to my students and their classmates when observing the art throughout the halls. It will also be a wonderful thing to look at instead of bare white brick walls.
