This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

For many students, it's bad enough having to go to school. But having to go to school and walk through dingy, institutionalized halls under harsh fluorescent lighting is even worse! Help me make my school a beautiful place.

My students come from poor families.

Many of them live in government housing; some don't even have permanent homes. The district itself is a harsh polarization of haves and have-nots. However, despite the odds being against them, my students are wonderful and motivated to learn.

My Project

Imagine being trapped in a stark white room all day. It's not the best atmosphere for learning and growing, is it? By receiving these decorative materials, I can showcase the students' artwork, projects, and the lessons - while covering up and hiding the white cement block walls. My students are between the ages of 3 and twelve. These are their formative years - if they associate learning with a bright, happy atmosphere now, school will forever be entombed in their minds as a pleasant experience.

School is the one constant in their lives - it should be the highlight of their day.

They get to see their friends in a safe environment, they get to be with adults whom spend their lives trying to help them, and they get to explore the world in a danger-free atmosphere. Sadly, our school is one of the most underfunded schools in the area. Helping me get supplies to make the library beautiful will help make the school that much more of a pleasant experience for the children.
