This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am beyond privileged to teach an amazing group of 2nd-grade kiddos. Each year I get so excited to meet my group of students and provide the best education I can for them. I am a teacher in a low income/high ELL population school. My students are faced with many challenges both inside and outside the classroom. Despite the many challenges many of my students face on a daily basis, I work to make our classroom a place where they feel safe and are excited to learn, explore, and share their ideas.

My students like to learn new things and each day look forward to time spent working on math, reading, and science.

They make each day enjoyable and interesting. They make excellent connections between what we are learning and the world around them. I am so proud to call them my students.

My Project

My students' favorite times of the day are reading intervention in the morning and math intervention in the afternoon. During both times students are able to get into groups of 3-5 students and work on various activities together. We work on sounds, reading comprehension, book studies, math games, computer time, and more. These stations are located in various places in the room. Three of our stations are located at tables where students must sit in chairs. While this is currently working, the chairs we currently have taken up a lot of room. To be frank, they're bulky. They take up quite a bit of space around each of the tables, and when not in use it makes those areas hard to walk around. I would like to start replacing those bulky chairs with some exciting seating choices that are not as bulky and can be tucked away when they are not in use. This makes centers (intervention times) a more homey and fun environment.
