Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a rather larger, Chicago Public neighborhood school. Our school has 91% of our students receiving and qualifying free or reduced lunch and an ethnic breakdown of 80%-Hispanic/Latino, 10%- African-American/Black, 6%- Caucasian/White. My students are part of the International Baccalaureate Programme both Middle Years Programme (MYP) and the Diploma Programme (DP). My students are special and driven by curiosity. They work daily to challenge their thinking, their peers, their community and think critically about the realities of the world.
My scholars have a passionate desire to learn and succeed.
They embody the traits of caring, reflective, open-minded, principled, risk-takers who seize educational opportunities with both hands!
My Project
I received some gift cards from generous donors and wanted to use it to bring some fan favorites into my curriculum for my IB classes and my new Senior Seminar Class.
If there is anything I know, Poe gets even the most reluctant reader hooked.
I plan on using this complete anthology to break the students up and do independent studies of Gothic Literature. I also wanted to focus on views of love and relationships. I think that a play, investigating poetry, and deep diving in to obsessive relationships will prove to garner great results from the students. I thank those who previously donated that allowed this to happen without having to post another project and wait and hope it gets funded.
