This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work with a group of hardworking high school students that just won't quit. My students come from various areas in an inner city that is part of the IPS District. Many of my students have IEPs and require a little more assistance to make the general education lessons accessible.
Some have had to take a class more than once, but that's only because they have decided to grab hold of another opportunity to get it right.

My Project
In a technological world, a year into a pandemic that changed the way school functions, the use of technology has been the #1 needed device for our students. Being able to serve those with greater needs than most at times, I am here to advocate for them to ask individuals to donate funds for an extra laptop in the classroom. Due to the pandemic we are not doing work with paper and pencil. It is all done on a laptop to keep the points of contact at a minimal. Our district is one-to-one with laptops for our students, but when a student has a laptop that is no longer operable due to unforeseen circumstances, we sometimes have to get creative so they don’t fall behind. We are in need of another laptop in the classroom to be used a loaner in the room for those who need it.
A class assignment that we complete in class that my students have grown to love is when we do brain breaks, meditation, or online games to assist with mental health.
I think sometimes we don't realize the added stress we carry from day-to-day. This device will assist them with an aid to encourage good mental health.
Here is our chance to put their minds at ease knowing that someone is out there is in this world rooting for them. We are asking for funds to go toward a classroom laptop for students who need them in an emergency cases. Due to the pandemic, all laptops in the classrooms have been loaned out. This will allow the students in need to have an opportunity to catch up, without the added stresses of life.
