FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Smiley's classroom raised $998

My Students
My students come to many backgrounds. My class is filled with 23 second grade students. I encourage them to be creative and innovative in the classroom. They are expected to be problem solvers, not problem creators. I teach them many ways to not only apply this in the classroom but also in life.
My students are part of a family that treats each other with kindness and respect.
I encourage them to love learning and find the way that works best for them. I currently have special needs students in my class for part of the day and more qualify for the reading sufficiency program for our state.
My Project
My name is Heather Smiley. I currently teach 2nd grade.
My current students have never had a normal year of school.
I am seeing lots of struggles with phonics and other literacy skills needed for 2nd grade. This year when school began many of my students were below grade level by a significant amount, and I am working to build phonemic awareness and better reading skills in my classroom. I was lucky enough to be able to enroll in a literacy training program through the Oklahoma State Department of Education and that is helping me feel more confident in my ability to teach my students to be more successful readers.
This year the majority of my students are struggling with reading foundational skills, and I am working on building those skills with the materials I can afford to purchase. These resources are greatly needed to help my student academically recover from the pandemic and require materials that are not usually found in 2nd grade classrooms. Many of the tools to help my students are expensive and can add up quickly, so I am asking for your help in obtaining supplies that would help me build my students' confidence and love for reading and build math skills.
