Building Up the Basics in PreK!

My Students

My classroom is a diverse inclusive classroom of low-income students aged 3 to 5. For most of my students, this is their first learning experience. All of our students receive free breakfast and lunch at school. We are located in the inner city of Pittsburgh and provide a free comprehensive program that is designed to nurture and support each child as we prepare them to transition to kindergarten.

My students are very interested in learning about letters, math, social studies, engineering, and science, and they enjoy exploring technology.

They are dreamers, thinkers, and questioners and love to discover new things about the world around them. Despite the challenges they face, they come to school each day ready to work and play with smiles and positive attitudes.

My Project

Many of the students in my classroom are struggling with their fine motor skills. We are in need of games and activities to help build these skills. The gift certificate from TPT will allow me to purchase files to create games and activities that will help build these skills. The pencil grips will assist them with holding their pencils the proper way allowing them to establish the skills needed for writing.

The development of fine motor skills are crucial to a child's future writing skills and development.

Each day we use our projector to look at slides about our letter and number of the week, shapes, colors and other materials that correspond to our curriculum. Our projector screen broke and right now we have white paper taped to the wall. This is sometimes makes it difficult to see and a new projector screen would make things clearer.

We are also in need of batteries for our cameras and toys as well as vinyl I can cut on the Cricut and use for labeling water bottles and belongings.
