My Project
Our K-12 school district, is one of just 5 school districts located on the Fort Peck Reservation in Northeastern Montana. 100% of our students live at or below poverty level and 100% qualify for the federal free-lunch program.
Our school library currently serves about 100 students in grades K-8, and less than 40% read at their grade level.
During the pandemic, our students were impacted particularly hard, because the majority of homes in the community do not have wi-fi, so on-line learning was virtually non-existent for many students.
In the past two years, I have spent a tremendous amount of time weeding an extremely out-of-date library collection, attempting to bring it up-to-date and make it more attractive and readable for younger patrons. I have added popular titles, including graphic novels and series. Additionally, I have sought out and added high interest-low level books, which would be beneficial to most of our upper elementary students.
With this project, I hope to add new books at several levels as well as fill in gaps in our book series'. Our students will truly appreciate any and all books that are added to the shelves in our library!
