My Students
Help my students build their creative thinking skills with colorful building sets, where they can use their imagination to build whatever they want.
Our urban school is in a high poverty area and serves many low-income families and students who are English language learners.
The majority of my students come from low, socio-economic backgrounds and 85% of them qualify for free/reduced price school lunch. My energetic, diverse class of kindergarteners represent a plethora of cultures and linguistic backgrounds. My students are: Latino, Arabic, Chinese, Burmese, Vietnamese, Filipino, Samoan, Indian, African American, Japanese/Caucasian, and Greek/African American.
My Project
The variety of learning and building materials that I have chosen for my students will provide them experiences and opportunities they have probably never had before. They will have the space and time to think about what they want to build and create. In the afternoon, the students will have a "Plan, Do, and Review" time in which they can "choose" from a set of activities. These building sets such as the Legos, Knex Building Sets, and Magnatiles will give them more motivated choices. While and after they create, the students can verbally share what their thought process was as they were building, as well as share their finished product with our classroom community.
My hope is that building structures will lead to building a student's learning experience and critical thinking as well as building our classroom community, communication, and cooperation with each other.
I welcome you to be a part of the magical journey of a student's learning and education. I firmly believe that a student's basic foundations and principles is crucial to building a lifelong learner, thinker, and a promising future for him/her.
