This year, I am transforming my classroom based around the research of Peter Liljedahl, a renowned professor from SFU. One of the basic principles of his work is to have students out of their seats, working at Vertical, Non-Permanent Learning Spaces. In other words - the kids are up working at the whiteboard, rather than watching the teacher do the work.
In order to implement this new strategy, my students will need whiteboard markers and erasers to help get us started!
I am also requesting a set of new headphones to replace ones that have gone the way of the wind due to daily use. Pencils are always a need in every classroom - ours will still need pencils even though most of our work will be on the whiteboards.
Your donation will help make our classroom into one that truly puts the learning into the hands of the students. I want them to see that they are capable of so much more than they realize, and that in the end, they don't really need ME to learn something new!
