My Project

The newest and most initiative teaching strategy in math classrooms, and my next steps in improving student learning is the research behind "Building Thinking Classrooms". This involves vertical whiteboard spaces where students do all of the thinking and writing with whiteboard markers so they can easily take intellectual risks in math. It's much easier to erase a whiteboard marker mistake than a pencil (or pen!) and this makes learning math much easier. I have found that students are much more engaged in their learning when they are required to be standing and positioned in a way that all students can see your work.

To implement this in my classroom a new set of standing whiteboards and markers would be needed to create stations around the perimeter of my classroom.

The whiteboard will give a sustainable vertical, non-permanent surface for multiple student groups. The other classroom supplies will support the work and supplies I need to make student activities engaging to support student learning. Overall, these supplies will help me to engage students and keep a safe learning environment for all students. Please help me to support thinking classrooms in my school!
