This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I work the pleasure of working in a multi-intensive severe special education classroom. Students in my classroom having three or more disabilities; many are nonverbal and/or have limited mobility. This is our school's first year having an MI-S classroom, so we are trying to build a strong foundation to make our classroom an amazing place for our students to learn. Many of the materials we currently have in our classroom are up to 10 years old. I work at a title 1 school, and I believe my students deserve to have access to great materials and resources that will help make them successful.
Each student in the MI-S program has unique needs and I am hoping to provide tools for them to have the best possible experience at school.
For example, some of my students seek specific sensory input, which can be met with special cushions. In our class, we work on foundational academic skills, life skills, social skills and more. I am hoping to provide my students with hands on materials to learn and practice their skills. Something as simple as a bag toss game will teach my students motor skills, taking turns, colors and more. Not to mention, students learn best when they have fun and engaging activities to participate in. My goal is to give my students what they need to reach their full potential at school!
