Building Technology Skills in a 21st Century Kindergarten Classroom
My students need 5 Chromebooks in order to enhance their academic learning and further develop their technology skills in our 21st Century Kindergarten classroom.
Being a novice educator in both a new school district and new school setting comes with difficulties and victories when teaching in my primary classroom. Currently, I have a classroom filled with 20 students whom 7 of them speak a different language in their home. Many of my Kindergartners need additional practice resources for language, exposure to more hands-on learning and personalized instruction tools to fit their specific educational needs.
When my students walk through my classroom door, they know they are encouraged and respected by both their peers and teacher.
By having my DonorsChoose project funded, my students will not only understand the random act of kindness initiative better, but they will also be provided the necessary tools for learning in a 21st century world. They will see how other people in our community and across the country believe in them as much as their teacher. This will help light the fire to inspire and encourage my Kindergarten students to continue on a path of academic excellence in the classroom!
My Project
Students in today’s society need to be fluent with technology. With access to a plethora of technology, children need to be taught how to use it safely and in a beneficial way. By donating to my project, I will provide my primary classroom the ability to begin developing these skills at a young age and start guiding and informing my students on how to use technology safely. In addition, students will learn how to appropriately visit academic sites, develop their computer skills and begin learning how to use Google Doc. and Google Slides through group project work.
Students need to be given the access to technology in the classroom at a young age in order to develop the significance and understanding that technology is a resource to be used for further investigating and recording your curiosities.
My 20 Kindergarten students will use these Chromebooks to conduct research on a variety of topics, develop basic keyboarding skills, and begin learning about how to create a safe digital footprint in today’s world. My students will use these 5 Chromebooks daily in small group settings. These Chromebooks will further increase their basic technology skills and help my students gain access to several online academic resources for their learning.
