Building Success Through Soft Starts

My students need a variety of building materials, such as Legos, Magnetic Tiles, Marble Runs, etc., for our morning STEM bins.

My Students

My students are kind, inquisitive, and diverse in many ways. Often they are overcoming many challenges, both inside and outside of school, which make learning in a traditional way more difficult. The second graders want to succeed, learn, and have a sense of belonging. I work hard to build a strong classroom community that promotes learning in all areas, as well as helping to develop the whole child.

I want my students to have a strong growth mindset and be engaged in their learning.

Many of my students need additional opportunities to explore, create, and have hands-on experiences that are beyond traditional learning and even technology tools. The second grader often need to be motivated and encouraged to think "outside of the box".

My Project

This year we are starting each morning with a "soft" start. Through STEM bins, students are able to have a low stress and engaging start to their day. When students arrive in the morning, I want them to have a variety of choices in the hands-on activities that they are able to use. Students will be able to work collaboratively with peers and have the opportunity to socialize or work independently.

I want to provide my students with engaging materials, in which they can create and collaborate with their peers in a calm environment.

Often the students arrive to school anxious and distressed. Morning STEM bins will provide my students with activities that will help them begin their school day with a soft start.
