My Project
I teach US History at a large diverse high school. My students bring their own interests, knowledge, experiences and curiosity to my classes. My goal is to help them learn how to think and explore for themselves. On a daily basis, I help students build their reading and writing skills. I have been using a literacy program called reading apprenticeship. One aspect of this program is helping students to increase their reading stamina and comprehension through the choice of high-interest books and giving them dedicated time to read every day.
I want to provide my students with a comprehensive library in my classroom and give them the opportunity to read high-interest books every day.
I have carefully curated a diverse selection of books including fiction, non-fiction and graphic novels that are at varying reading levels and cover a variety of topics related to US History. These are books that my school cannot afford to provide to my students. I hope you can support our project and help build my students build literacy.
