Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As a teacher in an urban public school in the Bronx, I strive every day to provide them with the tools they need to thrive—not just during the school year, but beyond it. One of the most important tools I can give them is the gift of reading.
This summer, I want to send each of my students home with their very own chapter book as part of our summer reading assignment.
For many of them, this will be the only book they own. Having a high-quality, engaging chapter book at their fingertips will help them maintain the reading skills they’ve worked so hard to build during the year—and inspire a lifelong love of reading.
Unfortunately, many of my students don’t have access to books at home. Public library access can be inconsistent, and families may not have the means to purchase books. By funding this project, you’ll be putting a meaningful, lasting resource directly into the hands of a child. The book I’ve selected is age-appropriate, culturally relevant, and aligned to our curriculum goals.
