This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have a great group of students that are eager to learn! When I announce that it's time to pack up, they all respond with, "Already? Can we stay and learn more?" They truly enjoy our time together in the classroom. In our class, we constantly work as a team to help each other grow. Every time I say team, my students respond, "Go, go, go!" This reminds them that as a team we have to move forward by counting on each other.
I have 24 students full of passion and drive to improve.
We have a diverse combination of students with unique personalities.
My Project
My main goal as a teacher is to help students find their voice and see themselves as authors. This makes our writing in the classroom more purposeful and meaningful to them because they are intrinsically motivated to share their stories as authors.
When planning my writing lessons, I always allocate time for my students to share their stories with one another or to the whole class.
This serves two purposes, it holds students accountable and at the same time it validates their hard work by giving them the opportunity to share their story. To motivate them further, I would like to have them sit in the "author's chair", a special and unique place where they are acknowledged as the author who has something to share- the spotlight is theirs! Moreover, the baskets I am requesting will help organize different books we use to learn about the process of writing and to learn about strategies/skills authors use to write engaging stories. I also use the baskets to display the stories/books of my students in our very own classroom library.
