My Project
As a first grade teacher, I am fortunate to have a classroom full of bright, energetic, and eager students who are just beginning to discover the joys of reading. I know that teaching them to read is a crucial step in their academic journey and I am dedicated to providing them with the tools they need to succeed.
To help build my students’ reading skills, I want to incorporate decodable readers into my small group reading.
One of the most important skills that my first graders need to develop is phonics. This involves understanding the relationship between letters and sounds in the English language. These books use a systematic and sequential approach to introduce new sounds and words, allowing my students to practice their phonics skills in a fun and engaging way.
These decodable readers also play a crucial role in developing foundational reading skills for my students. These skills include decoding, fluency, and comprehension. By using these books in small reading groups, I am able to tailor the instruction to meet the individual needs of each student. This allows them to progress at their own pace.
In conclusion, I am grateful for the opportunity to teach first graders and to witness their growth as readers. The decodable readers we use in our classroom not only help to build their phonics skills, but also lay the foundation for future reading success and broaden their perspectives. I am confident that these books will continue to inspire and motivate my students to become lifelong readers.
