Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school is a Title I school where students receive free breakfast, snack, and lunch. For some, these are the only meals they will have until they return to school the next day. Most of the children come from low-income homes where parents struggle to make ends meet and don't have the materials to help their children at home.
My students are little sponges wanting to absorb everything they can in the time we have together.
They want to get their hands into and on everything! They want to hear stories, act out stories, write, explore, dance, create, play and have fun while learning.
My students come from many different places around the world. They come to school speaking Spanish, Urdu, Chinese, Mandarin, Bengali, English and many other languages. My school offers ESL classes and parent engagement workshops to help families learn and grow together. Our goal is to work, learn and grow together.
My Project
Children come to school with very different levels of fine motor skills. For some children, Pre-K is their first time holding a pencil, crayon, marker, paint brush or a scissor.
With the right materials these 3 and 4 year old's will develop their fine motor skills and dexterity needed to draw, write, cut, rip and create while having fun.
At first manipulating a scissor is a very difficult and stressful task. The easy grip scissors allow children to use all 5 fingers to have more control over the handling and cutting experience. With the easy grip scissors children will be snipping away with ease. Sensory paints help children relieve stress and develop fine motor skills while creating masterpieces. The tri-grip and jumbo pencils offer a more secure grip while manipulating a pencil when learning to write. The letter tracing stamps help children begin to learn the correct letter formation that is needed for a life time of writing.
Once a child's fine motor skills start to develop the joy and independence in writing, creating and painting will flourish. When children begin to gain confidence in holding scissors, crayons and pencils the masterpieces grow and develop. With the right materials it is easier to help and teach children how to write their names, letters, draw representational pictures, and gain a love of writing and art.
The smile on a child's face when they step back to admire their work is a gift to all. With the colorful construction paper and skin toned paper our room will look like an art gallery for all to come and admire.
