Building STEAM for Multilingual Learners!

My Project

Multilingual learners often have gaps in their vocabulary and conversation skills and need authentic, real opportunities to master both of these. Many of the vocabulary taught is Tier 2 and Tier 3, crossing over from one content area to another and/or very specific. It takes time and practice to master and take ownership of this level of vocabulary.

STEAM activities provide chances for my multilingual students to interact with one another utilizing vocabulary and conversational skills they have learned.

Research tells us one of the best ways to take ownership of new information and learn from others is through play.

Building with magnetic tiles, wooden blocks, marble runs, and other STEAM building activities are low-stakes activities for my students to practice their new skills, learn from other students, and take ownership of their learning. It also allows me to assess their progress in an informal setting and different context. These activities bring joy, laughter, a huge amount of learning to my students, my classroom, and me!
