They either use them to use their imagination to create something or just to settle in for the day. I have also used the play-do for them to have a hands-on method to show that they understood the lesson and can retain information. For example, after learning about natural disasters, the students used the play-do to create a natural disaster. \r\n\r\nThe writing supplies you donated have helped the to be more engaged in writing their personal narrative masterpieces. They like the option of choosing what writing utensil they are going to use. It gives them more ownership in their writing and increases their desire to want to write more. \r\n\r\nThe organization supplies you donated have made turning in work efficient. Once they recognize their feelings they are learning to pick strategies to help them process. The books purchased have key themes that help enforce the social skills lessons.\r\n Learning can be fun. They immediately noticed that some of the books have multiple copies and started their own book clubs! Choosing to read together and then talk about the book. They think the erasable pens are magic! The first few times they got to use those we had to practice how to erase with them and spent time just exploring them. How could a pen erase?! We've been able to manipulate sounds, letters, numbers with all the magnetic tape and hooks. The vocabulary conversations while they smell the Dr. Sketch markers are awesome to see in action!\r\n\r\nLearning is coming alive for them! They want to write, they want to practice, they can't wait to get to group and that is because of the variety of materials they get to utilize in our lessons! They are also learning and using higher level words like magnets, marbles, and other new language to them. \r\n\r\nWhen working in small groups, they have to learn and practice the language for cooperation along with how to explain to each other what they think should come next.
