This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students love to reading colorful books, writing words and drawing pictures. However, some of them are low achievers, which causes them to become very frustrated and discourage.

The students are 1st graders who will be learning how to formulate their reading, spelling and writing skills with one-on-one assistance from the teacher and mentors.

They are attending one of the high priority poverty stricken schools in Michigan, where books, supplies, academic games, furniture and computers are very limited. Most of the scholars come from single parent homes. Many of the parents are overwhelmed with their daily chores which prevent them from being involved with the challenges of their children's education.

My Project

Children love to see bright and colorful words and pictures. I notice that each morning the students remind me, "Teacher don't forget we have to do our ABC chant and our Sight Words." They love to see the different websites that introduces new sight words and sounds with its pictures. If children practice saying their sight words as they write them in their sight word journals they will become better readers, spellers and writers.

Most of the scholars come from single parent homes. Many of the parents are overwhelmed with their daily chores which prevents them from being involved with the challenges of their children's education. The resources I have requested will be used as a daily practice tool for each student. Each journal features plenty of writing and drawing space. The journals also have a writing guide, that will help students write their sight words in columns. The donations for this request will help my students, through their formative stages of learning, how to read, spell and write.

The broad impact will provide students to have skillful tools available to them at all times. It will also help students to become efficient and fluent readers, writers, and spellers, as well as becoming more confident in their ability to be successful.
