We stay busy in preschool. We work hard to help students learn how to talk, stay with a group, and participate in activities. Students learn that learning is fun!
The students in our class are excited to learn!
Most of these students have a disability and corresponding IEP. We work with kids with autism, down syndrome, speech delays, cerebral palsy, and other developmental delays. In addition to participating in the preschool curriculum, students receive speech and language therapy, motor therapy (occupational therapy and physical therapy), behavior support, and/or academic support. Students in our program come from towns and surrounding rural areas located across our district.
My Project
What happens in preschool looks like play, but it really is a child's work! The materials used for group activities and work time (play time) help students practice new skills. We offer puzzles of varying difficulties to help students progress at their own pace. Puzzles help students learn spatial reasoning, hand-eye coordination, problem solving, and so much more. They learn words and phrases such as same, next to, twist it, flip it over, and slide it in.
Preschool students learn by touching and doing!
They need to hold, twist, and place materials together in different ways to learn about them. The gear blocks we will get with this project are amazing! Students can put them together by stacking them on top of each other or by interlocking the edges. The blocks can move and twist which gives students the opportunity to see their creations change.
I know these materials will encourage students to continue their learning as they play and explore.
