Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Kindergarten students are ALWAYS on the move. I teach Dual Language which means half of my students are ELL and half are monolingual. Which means, I am lucky to have a diverse group each year. It is amazing to see how in such a short period of time my students begin to learn a brand new language.

Teaching in a Dual Language classroom means students get to learn from each other about their culture and language.

In my school we have a variety of cultures and languages. In my classroom, students learn Spanish. The English Language Learners grow academically in their Spanish and also learn English from their peers. The non English Language Learners learn Spanish and continue to grow academically in English. I think it is a very special program because the students really get to see their growth and they are so happy when they finally begin to understand and speak that second language. They do this while working together and growing together!

My Project

Having these listening read alouds will allow my students to have access to more Spanish vocabulary. I struggle to find good Spanish books for my students and also some that are not so expensive. In our centers, students need to be able to not only look and read a spanish book but also listen to someone reading it. This will help them build their Spanish vocabulary.

These Spanish Read Aloud books will help my students build their Spanish vocabulary.

There are a lot of books online but there is nothing like holding a book and being able to flip the pages as someone reads it to you.
