My Project
My students are referred for counseling services with me because they are struggling with an emotional issue and/or have a disability that is impacting their behavior in the classroom, as well as their ability to relate to their peers and thrive at school. In counseling, students practice examining their thought patterns and reframing their thoughts, which in turn can positively impact their feelings and behavior. Games help students grow socially and emotionally in an accessible and inclusive way that does not make students feel targeted because of their difference or challenge, but instead normalizes their experiences and respects different learning styles. Games, like the ones in this project, have helped my students build social and emotional resilience by facilitating activities during which students recognize what choices they have that might better meet their needs. Games help make social emotional learning fun for students and encourage engagement!
