My students need DNA kit and biochemistry kit to understand different molecular structures of biochemicals and DNA. Using hands on tools to build models and reconstruct models allows students to gain a deeper understanding of these topics.
The high school I teach at is in a small town in northern Michigan. The students are average high school students working to learn and grow in order to become productive members of the community. The students come from varied socioeconomic backgrounds and strive to succeed.
The high school has students in 9th through 12th grades and strives to provide a rigorous academic learning environment for all students.
The school has a wonderful fine arts program and great athletic programs to provide enrichment for students. There are opportunities for all students to excel in the areas that they enjoy.
My Project
Building models of biochemicals and DNA allows students to gain a deeper understanding of their biological structures. The DNA kit and biochemistry kit will allow students to work in small groups to build models of structures. Then students will be able to compare and contrast the structures they have built.
Through the process of building, breaking down, and rebuilding models and then discussing these structures students will gain a deeper understanding of the biochemicals used as organisms carry out life processes.
Using hands on models in science is vital to student engagement and growth.
These tools will help my students grow as scientists.
