Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a bilingual teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. My plan is to make their experience in the classroom like a home away from home.
My students are very energetic and eager to learn.
They like to move, they love to read and love lots of positive attention. I have a mix of students who come from single-parent homes to homes with grandparents to homes with both parents. Also, my students are English Language Learners whose primary language is Spanish.
From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I treat them like they were my own children (even though I do not have any of my own yet). I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day.
By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hoping to inspire our learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.
My Project
My students must keep up with understanding how science works in the world. Science is changing every single day, and so are the interest of my students. Students in my class are very hands-on and visual learners. My school does not provide a lot of resources for hands-on science. The resources I am requesting will provide my students and future students the opportunities to learn while doing in science class.
Science is an opportunity to open up minds.
Students who know how science works from their own point of view will understand how science works in the world. Helping students begin to learn that science is exciting will only enhance learning. My students will love getting their hands on these science kits.
