Building Robots In-Person Again

Help me give my students VEX V5 robot sensors, wheels, and potentiometers to expand their options for robotics building and programming for STEAM projects.

My Students

My students study physics and engineering. We also have a large focus on robotics as a way to apply STEM principles in an engaging way. As we expand our program, there is a need to expand ability to communicate our outreach events to the participants and to potential participants.

My students come from a variety of backgrounds and are all bright and capable of great things.

Recently, there has been a sharp upturn in students who cannot afford to bring the necessary materials and need our help. They study physics and engineering and need access to the expanded support technology that we can provide. They compete in regional events in engineering design and physics and cannot do so without these tools. My students are dedicated and spend countless hours before and after school as well as at lunch working on their projects. As they work on more advanced projects, we need to be able to have access to the parts that we do have.

My Project

For the past few years my students have been learning a variety of scientific and engineering lessons using robotics. To raise the bar we need access to updated sensors and parts. Inertial and rotation sensors help connect concepts about position, direction, speed, velocity, and acceleration. Optical, distance, and GPS sensors allow students to gather information about the world around them to create modern programming applications.

These new sensors and parts to meet the demand for increased in-person STEAM projects after 18+ months of distance learning.

Students need to work in smaller groups to limit COVID-19 exposure to their classmates. The best thing is these tools will be able to be used for many years to come!
