Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am the luckiest person because I get to work with approximately 600 AMAZING students and their teachers in my school as the librarian. My school is considered low income because 82% of the students at my school qualify for free or reduced price lunch. I work tirelessly to ensure my students have access to the same resources that wealthy schools take for granted.

I believe without a doubt that the school library is the heart of my school.

I aspire to make the school library the place students WANT to be! Over the past two years I have worked to find funding to create a MakerSpace in the library where students can take control of their learning. They explore, solve problems, and collaborate as they use the materials in the MakerSpace. They are given a safe environment to try and fail, and try again. I want to continue increasing the materials my students have access to so they have the opportunity to explore STEM concepts in a FUN way!

My Project

Cubelets look like a toy, but there is so much more to them. Not only will the Cubelets integrate with our existing brick building materials, but they will breathe new life into our iPads with the apps the students will use to control the Cubelets.

My philosophy is simple: Make Learning FUN!

Cubelets Robot kits will provide another opportunity for the students to have fun while learning in the library! These materials provide an opportunity for groups of students to work collaboratively as they explore the endless possibilities of robots they can build. The Cubletes kits will allow my students to be able to build more than one robot at a time. As the students work to create the robots, they will have opportunities to plan, build, test, fail, rebuild, and succeed, which are all good experiences that will help them in the future.
