Our school is an International Baccalaureate program within a larger public school district. Our goal is to promote intercultural understanding and respect. We strongly believe in and value opportunities for all students to engage in inquiry, critical thinking and problem solving.
Our students graduate from eighth grade with the knowledge and skills to succeed in high school and beyond.
We value the growth and development of the whole child. Students not only need the knowledge and power of academics, but additionally the development social and emotional learning. We strive to provide avenues where students think not only about themselves, their families and community, but also with a global perspective. Understanding and living with empathy, tolerance, cooperation, and integrity are just as important.
My Project
Each week the sixth through eighth grade students participate in advisory groups. During the 2017-2018 academic year we will split our students into ten advisories. During our meeting we strive to provide students with many different opportunities for growth and development. Specifically, we will be focusing on building trust, discussing gossiping and social media, traditions, respect, peace, and empathy.
The growth and development of our students' communication skills, as well as their social and emotional learning, is something that we hold in high regard.
Giving students opportunities to play games such as Uno, Jenga, Trouble, and Sorry allows students to strengthen their communication, problem solving, and team building skills. Whether working as a team, or playing against one another, students will gain confidence in themselves, develop a respect and understanding of their peers, as well as learning how to work through emotions related to winning and losing. The board and card games purchased through this donation will provide students with positive and healthy experiences.
I see so much time being spent on iPads, XBOX, and other gaming systems that board games are rarely played or thought of by our kids. Through your donation, students will get the chance to work and play with one another. You will be providing opportunities for students to create a culture of connectedness where peers and teachers alike truly know and understand each other.
