A typical day in my classroom is exciting and fast-paced. We have independent reading time during Reader's Workshop each morning. I want my students to listen to fluent reading through books on CD to develop their reading skills.
I have 21 students (7 boys and 14 girls).
They are beginning readers and are getting excited about reading. Our school is a neighborhood Title I school. Over 70% of my students qualify for free and reduced-price lunch. I want to help my students become better readers by getting more books into their hands.
My Project
During Reader's Workshop my students read independently from the books in their individual book boxes. These books are on their current reading level. I also want my students to listen to fluent readers through the books on CD during this time.
We use Lucy Calkins Reader's Workshop model and we have been talking about using our Reading Superpowers to become better readers. My students have learned to look at the pictures, point under words and search for sight words when they are reading. We also practice re-reading to make our reading sound smoother and more beautiful.
Donations to this project will help develop my students reading skills.
They are excited to read each day and I want to continue to add to this excitement. Reading is an important skill for them to learn and your support will make a huge difference in the lives of my 21 students this year as well as my future students!
