Building Readers and Kind Hearts with Wonder

Help me give my students a class set of Wonder by R. J. Palacio so every student can read and experience this powerful story about kindness, empathy and standing up for others, while building important reading/writing skills.

My Project

We are requesting a class set of Wonder by R. J. Palacio so every student can read this powerful novel at the same time and participate in meaningful discussions and learning activities.

Wonder tells the story of a boy with facial differences who enters school for the first time.

Through this story, students learn about kindness, empathy, acceptance, perseverance, and standing up for others—skills that are just as important as reading and writing.

Having individual copies of the book will allow students to:

Follow along closely and build reading comprehension

Go back and reference the text

Participate in group discussions and writing activities

Make personal connections to the characters and themes

Many of our students do not have access to books at home, and a shared classroom set will give them the chance to truly engage with the novel. These books will be used for whole-class reading, small-group instruction, and social-emotional learning lessons throughout the year.
