Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students live in a low income, high poverty area with many migrant students who often move around with their families looking for work.
Most of my students have parents who work in the fields and do not have the ability to help them at home.
My students face many challenges both in and out of the classroom but they don't let it stop their determination to learn! They are hard working and love coming to school, they just need extra support!
Our motto is, "Oh, the places we'll go to be college, career and community ready!" It is my goal to expose my students to a whole new world they otherwise do not have the access to.
My Project
My students struggle to have access to quality reading materials. Having these materials readily available in the classroom will be a huge benefit.
We need books - Judy Moody, A to Z Mysteries and Mercy Watson - and classroom magazines - Time for Kids and TFK Non-fiction Readers - that are at their reading level.
These materials will give my students access to not only grade level reading materials but current news stories from TIME Magazine for kids.
My students will be able to not only use these materials in the classroom but will also be able to take the materials home. The non-fiction materials will give students the resources they need to research information about the ocean before our April field trip to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. I know these materials will give my students a better background knowledge to help access the grade level content.
