My Students

I work at a small elementary school a block away from a gorgeous beach with stunning mountains behind. Unfortunately, while the scenery provides a small bit of relief, the majority of students struggle with poverty and the classroom may be their only safe space. My students are eager and engaged with their learning, however, I can see the importance of school slowly fading to them as they reach middle school age. The majority of my students do not have the affinity for technology that most kids their age have and would much rather be outside or doing hands-on activities. I aim to find new ways to make online learning as interactive and engaging as possibe.

My Project

This professional development will provide me with powerful strategies to build positive relationships. Building positive relationships in the classroom is so important for the students learning. When a safe space is created through teacher-student relationships and student-student relationships, students are more likely to take responsible learning risks, and really put themselves out there.

Through this course, we will learn the importance of building positive relationships in the classroom as well as the impacts created on the students.

We will be taught powerful strategies to developed these positive relationships leading to improved student engagement, minimizing classroom disruptions, and reducing stress for all.
