My students need building bricks and base plates for a variety of STEAM challenges.

My Students
I am currently an intervention teacher for a spectacular elementary school. I will be helping to start a STEM Science lab for our school. This Science lab will serve students in kindergarten through fifth grade. They will have an opportunity to visit me in the lab for STEM lessons multiple times a month.
I teach some amazing students.
They are very sweet and have a strong desire to learn. I come from a low socio-economic school, where 88% are on free or reduced-price lunch. It is very important for students to have hands-on materials to enrich their learning experience. Their attention spans are not meant to sit on a rug and listen to a lecture. The best way for students to learn is to have interaction with their subject and to get involved. The children get so excited and are ready to learn when they have opportunities for hands-on activities.
My Project
Students need opportunities for hands-on learning experiences. These hands-on experiences make learning more memorable and meaningful. The STEAM lab has over 750 students come through its doors every week. The students are challenged to use their hands, think critically, communicate, collaborate, and get creative.
The building blocks and bases will provide students with resources to complete a variety of STEAM challenges.
We will use the building blocks for engineering challenges, exploring the effects of earthquakes, creating habitats or land forms, deepening our understanding of mathematical concepts (shapes, area, perimeter, and 3-dimensional figures- to name a few), exploring buoyancy, comparing simple and complex machines, and so much more! The building blocks and bases from this project will heighten our students' understanding of countless science and mathematics concepts. They can also be used in literacy STEAM extensions. The possibilities are endless!
