Building Our Way to a Promising Future...

My students need construction blocks to build and create buildings and structures; this fosters creativity, critical thinking, and cooperating and working together.

My Students

The magic of creating and building is a natural part of a young child's mind. Do you remember the immense joy you got from building your first structure, whether out of blocks or legos? My Kindergarten students thrive on building things and creating from images in their mind.

My culturally and linguistically diverse class of students are comprised of ten boys and six girls, so you can imagine all the energy and imagination sparks!

I feel blessed to have a mixture of cultures in my classroom such as students who are Latino, Caucasian, African American, Vietnamese, Filipino, Chinese, Arabic, and mixed race. But most of my students come from families which are low-income and about 88% of my class come from families where English is not their first language.

My Project

The variety of learning and building materials that I have chosen for my students will provide them experiences and opportunities they have probably never had before. They will have the space and time to think about what they want to build and create. In the afternoon, the students will have a "Plan, Do, and Review" time in which they can "choose" from a set of activities. These building sets such as the crystal climbers, zoo building set, jumbo builders, and marbulous marble run will give them more motivated choices. While and after they create, the students can verbally share what their thought process was as they were building, as well as share their finished product with our classroom community. My hope is that building structures will lead to building a student's learning experience and critical thinking as well as building our classroom community, communication, and cooperation with each other.

I welcome you to be a part of the magical journey of a student's learning and education.

I firmly believe that a student's basic foundations and principles is crucial to building a lifelong learner, thinker, and a promising future for him/her.
