Building Our Student Resource Pantry, Part II

My students need access to clean socks, underwear, undershirts, gym shorts, sweatshirts and sweatpants in order to be prepared for the day.

My Students

Our school is a therapeutic day school for students ages 14 to 22. We service students who experience challenges such as poverty, violence, hunger, and homelessness. Such factors greatly impact their learning process as well as their ability to engage in the classroom. Our school provides a safe and consistent environment along with both educational and clinical supports.

Our staff works diligently to increase the therapeutic supports at our school.

This project is to fulfill the immediate needs of our students in order to support social, emotional and behavioral growth, while being cognizant of the everyday hardships our students face.

My Project

We are prioritizing our students' growth and development and thus working to create a pantry of student essentials, including toiletries, healthy snacks and easy to prepare meals and clothing. The majority of our students live in poverty and are in homes that have limited supplies. The lack of such necessities should not prevent our students from achieving in the classroom. Increased access to such items will allow for increased concentration and a more viable learning environment. It is vital that our students' essential needs are met in order for them to focus on learning. It has been evident in the past, that when our students basic needs are met and we have access to such materials, our students are in better space and are significantly more ready to be educated and prosper as young adults.
