My Project

My students are blossoming young performers, directors, and designers. This project will provide them with LEGO sets to build models of theater stages and set designs as they conceptualize and study plays. By using LEGOs, students will develop spatial reasoning, creativity, and deeper understanding of how settings impact storytelling on stage.

Our students are imaginative, energetic, and full of ideas.

They love performing arts and thrive when lessons are hands-on and creative. Many of them have limited opportunities to engage in design thinking or architectural modeling outside of school. They are eager to explore how set design shapes performances and how settings bring stories to life.

In performing arts class, students study plays from different genres, cultures, and historical periods. Understanding “setting” is essential in interpreting and staging any work. With these LEGO sets, students will:

Build miniature theater models to learn parts of a stage (proscenium, thrust, arena, black box).

Design set pieces to match script excerpts, supporting analysis of mood, era, and location.

Collaborate in groups to plan and present their designs, just as professional designers do in theater production meetings.

This hands-on approach makes abstract ideas tangible and develops design, teamwork, and presentation skills.

By bringing design and construction into performing arts, students will gain skills applicable across disciplines – from stage design to architecture to engineering – all while nurturing their love of theater.
