My students need different level Spanish guided reading books to help them build their reading skills in their home language. My students will use these books to enhance their reading skills and become book lovers.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a teacher in a diverse low-income, high-poverty school district, my students face daily struggles and challenges every day both in and out of the classroom. Despite the challenges they face, my classroom is created as a safe haven for my students to feel loved, included, and safe by me and their peers. I try to provide my students with creative, meaningful and hands-on social and academic experiences that I know they would not get to experience at home.
Many of my students come from impoverishment, single-family homes.
Most of my students receive free breakfast and lunch based on their socioeconomic status. I also have many students that are also new to the country that are English Language learners and have never been to school in their country. Each day, I work to ensure that despite their hardships at home, my students are able to work to their fullest potential and that they are receiving the best educational experiences with me so they can grow, thrive, achieve, and be the best little people they can be.
My Project
Spanish guided reading materials are desperately needed in my classroom. My first graders are moving from learning letters sounds to reading very quickly. My students need Spanish guided reading to help them develop their reading skills in their home language. Research shows that English Language Learners that develop their reading skills in their home language can easily transfer those skills to the second language. I help my students to learn English as holding on and becoming literate in their native language as well. My first graders are so motivated to read and write.
My students love to read.
These Spanish guided reading books will motivate and engage them to read more and will help them to develop their Spanish reading skills.
I believe that your generous donation to my first graders will help them to develop the readers skills that they need to become better readers.
Cesar Chavez said it best when he stated, "We need to help students and parents cherish and preserve the ethnic and cultural diversity that nourishes and strengthens this community and nation"
