Preschool is one of the most important developmental stages for children. Within this first year of school, students acquire many skills that create the foundation for further learning. Children at this age are learning to increase self awareness and independence as well as forming new relationships with others.
Communication and socialization are two main goals in the preschool classroom.
These skills are mostly taught through various types of play. My classroom's main goal is to promote independence by creating an atmosphere that is student directed and open to exploration.
My Project
Social emotional learning is one of the most important foundational concepts that we as educators can expose to young children. When a child is given the tools necessary to identify what they are feeling, discuss what occurred to cause their feelings, and learn ways to cope and heal from those emotions, they can grow to have increased self-awareness and self-management. The books within this project each focus on different emotions, self-awareness topics and social awareness skills. They will be included to supplement all of the social emotional learning lessons within my classroom.
