Help me give my students have the tools to build their futures! They love to build, design, and create but do not have access to the materials they need.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students walk into the classroom every day full of energy and ready to learn. We are a Cape Verdean Creole classroom, meaning all of us are learning English together in the first grade, and have recently immigrated from Cape Verde.
My students are full of life, smiles, energy, and have hearts of gold despite the hardships they go through on a daily basis.
Some have left family members behind in Cape Verde, and most are currently experiencing the difficulty of homelessness or living in transitional housing.
That does not dishearten them for they give their all each and every day to learn. My students truly love education, are playful, and love to build and create.
My Project
My students are highly creative and have many amazing designs they would love to build. We sadly do not have access to enough building blocks to allow students to create what is in their heads. Each student is currently limited to 25 blocks, which severely impairs there creativity, as well as our class ability to use them.
I would love to provide each child with enough blocks to create anything they desire, and as use the blocks to build three-dimensional representations of things we are learning!
We are going to be studying habitats soon. Students can build their animal habitats rather than drawing them, they can build reading predictions before we finish books together, and be designing worlds that they wish to write about.
