My Students
I work with students that range from grades Kinder through 5th grade. This range means they have a variety of background knowledge levels and experiences. Yet, despite these differences, they have many of the same needs: to be cared for, to learn new things, and to be successful on their educational journey.
My students come to class expecting to be challenged.
They want to discover new things on their own and with their peers. They want opportunities to problem-solve, and then to apply what they learn to “real” life situations.
My Project
Students love LEGOs. Students immediately engage when LEGO bricks are brought out. With these materials, a wide variety of lessons will be available. The simple machines kit will allow my students to explore and use the various simple machines such as pulleys, levers, wheels, gears, etc. By using these they will gain a deeper understanding of how the simple and compound machines work. The other building bricks will be used in conjunction with these machines, allowing for creative planning and building.
Using LEGOs helps students develop constructive problem-solving skills and mathematical thinking.
Creative building allows them to apply these concepts utilizing a familiar medium. In addition, the hands-on aspect helps to develop their fine motor skills and spatial awareness. When my students are actively engaged, their learning is boundless.
