Building our Core while Learning

My students need 5 balance ball chairs to add to a classroom

My Students

Imagine having to sit inside of a small box and being expected not to move. The expectation is that you are to remain seated in your box for 6 hours but still do your job.

My students attend a Title 1 school in the eastern part of North Carolina.

Many of my students consider school to be their safe place. For some, school is their second home. A home should be comfortable but also have an environment where you can flourish and be successful.

My Project

My students have enjoyed using stability balls as alternative seating. But, they have often said that they wish they could have a ball meshed with a chair. Some of my students need a little extra assistance with using their stability balls. They have requested that they have a ball that "doesn't roll as easily." The balance ball chair will help students who do not quite have enough core strength to maintain a stability ball on their own. Just because they can't control the ball, doesn't mean they shouldn't have the opportunity to have alternative seating that will help them learn better and incorporate movement. The balance ball chairs will allow students to have movement while they are in the classroom. It has been proven that movement while learning increases retention of information.
