Building Our Classroom Community Through Maker Math!
My students need opportunities to
interact with our math curriculum with hands on learning experiences in a small group setting during our Makerspace Workshop.
Our students are active, inquisitive, and hardworking. With a class of diverse learners, our class Makerspace Center will be a venue for all students to find an outlet where their strengths will be valued. My students need materials for this center so they can challenge their understanding of science, technology, engineering, math, literacy, art, and music through building and creating. By having a classroom Makerspace Center, students will have opportunities to tinker side by side with their classmates. Through this process, students will build a culture of learning through exploring where mistakes are embraced as a step toward learning.
My Project
My students will benefit from hands-on math experiences to strengthen their math skills and social development as a student. During our Makerspace Workshop students have developed positive relationships with their peers while supporting a sense of community in our learning environment through small group work and whole class sharing.
With the addition of Maker Math, students will be able to strengthen their math skills, support the integration of math during our Makerspace Workshop, and continue to build our classroom community.
Activities will allow students to practice what we have learned and provide extra practice in areas they need additional support. Upon completion of their activities students will share their learning with their small group or classmates.
Alphabriks & Math Briks will allow students to use our classroom Lego boards to show math problems in numeric and written form. Mobi Numberial Tile Game and Mobi Kids math tiles game will allow students practice their math fluency with a partner or in a small group. Wooden Cuisenaire Rods class set will provide students practice with visual representation of model drawing problems, fractions, and math fluency.
