My Students

I am a teacher in a low income school district. All of our students receive free breakfast and free lunch. As you can imagine these children have challenges at home and as well as at school. Despite the majority living in poverty, they come to school everyday with good attendance, eager to learn and so excited for what the day holds. Manipulatives and hands-on activities are what drives our classroom. The more engaging the activity the better the results. With the help of Legos and Stem materials , students would be able to have manipulatives that would greatly impact their learning in a positive way.

My Project

Our students love to use hands on materials in their learning. Having building materials that students can manipulate would bring a more enriching lesson and real life learning in the classroom. Using building kits students would be able to actually see the content being taught and have a real world understanding about the concepts. Having activities/lessons come to life in the class creates more time on task and motivation for the students to want to learn. More active involvement learning new concepts creates a deeper understanding of the standards students must know to succeed in today's world. Excitement for the learning will happen when students are the creators and not the passive watchers.
