The students I teach in this urban inner city school in the second largest city in New Jersey are all just learning the English language. They are all just learning the customs and ways of our great country, our great state, and our city. These students do not have the opportunity that many others have, but yet they have the opportunity because they are young, willing to learn, and willing to be American. These students have very limited English skills as they are all English language learners. They are hands-on learners and, as with many young ones today, they are technology savvy but yet deprived. There are 15 students in this class, with their ages ranging from 3 to 4 years. We will greatly appreciate anything you can provide to help us fulfill their educational journey.
My Project
Help our class build their bodies through active play. We are in need of indoor/outdoor equipment that can be used in small spaces. We are teachers in a very diverse community with limited space to engage in fine and gross motor activities. With the proper equipment, we can maximize our ability to help our students achieve these skills. The materials that we are asking for will help our children in the following ways: The easy squeeze scissors, bean bag toss, bean bags, cash register, and knock down number challenge will help develop fine-motor skills, which is the coordination of small muscles. It involves synchronizing hands, fingers, and eyes. The Active Play Kit, Giant Number Stepping, Beginner's Basketball Portable Hoop, and 24" Hoops will all help with gross motor skills, which are the bigger movements. The children will use and develop their large muscles in the arms, legs, torso, and feet.
