Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students at my school have so little and I want to give them so much more. All of the students here come from homes below the poverty line, and I want them to have the chance to experience something that can influence their lives.
These students also do not have the luxury or privilege of having a gym membership to help keep themselves in shape.
Sadly our school also does not have the weights or equipment to satisfy this need. Our school can really use the equipment to help beat the obesity epidemic while increasing health and social and emotional skills of our school community I want them to be exposed to as much as possible so that they don't fall behind in their future educational pursuits. They come from broken homes, are living with an aunt or grandparent instead of mom and dad, and many even come from homeless shelters or abused family shelters. They have a very bleak outlook on what life has to offer them and need to know they can make a difference in their lives with the power of an education.
My Project
Our school is will be fielding a baseball team as part of the PSAL for the first time. We have little to no equipment to use so we are trying to build our program. We have requested a beach wagon and some baseballs to help develop our program. The cart can be used to pull all of our equipment we currently have. A collection of baseballs will also be needed as we will need lots of practice.
Some of the equipment we have now is no longer functional or outdated and the new equipment we are requesting will start to help us build our program.
We have already received several second hand donations, including some gloves and bats in which I also donated.
The kids will benefit tremendously with these new products as it will put them on pace to be able to compete with other schools.
